This review shows the changes to the estuarine biota (the primary production, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic invertebrates, fish, and birds) resulting from that legacy but, in addition to considering current hazards, it aims to predict the consequences of future risks such as increasing climate variability and habitat loss from ever increasing estuarine use.
